Top 25 X-Men

Over the past four decades, dozens upon dozens of mutants have called themselves X-Men. Sometimes they would be known as a New Mutant or part of X-Factor or an Exile, but they were all part of Charles Xavier's extended family. With literally hundreds to choose from,
we sorted through the many mutants who have been part of an X-team over the past 40+ years. We looked into alternate futures, brief allegiances and long-standing members. We chose and ranked these characters based on the following criteria: living the dream, personality, staying power.

Second-grader swims alcatraz

Fueled by several slices of pizza, a 7-year-old boy braved the chilly waters of San Francisco Bay on Monday and became
one of the youngest swimmers to cross the channel from Alcatraz Island to the city.

Braxton Bilbrey, a second-grader from Glendale, Ariz., made the estimated 1.4-mile swim to Aquatic Park in 47 minutes, according to his coach.

No official records are kept for the feat, but Braxton could be the youngest ever to accomplish it.

DDR invades Saturday morning cartoons

CBS and DIC Entertainment (DIC), in association with Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., today announced the production of a new dance competition series, Dance Revolution,
to debut on September 16, 2006 on “CBS’s Saturday Morning Secret Slumber Party” branded programming block.

Dance Revolution (previously titled Dance, Dance, Dance!), a live-action television series inspired by Konami’s hit video game franchise Dance Dance Revolution® (DDR), will join the new schedule of programming on “CBS’s Saturday Morning Secret Slumber Party,” a three-hour, E/I-compliant branded programming block exclusive to broadcast television. The series will encourage physical activity. Dance Revolution (E/I, TVY 7) complements the programming block’s overall theme of promoting healthy, balanced active lifestyles. The line-up of previously announced programming to debut on “CBS’s Saturday Morning Secret Slumber Party” includes CAKE, Horseland, Kooky Kitchen, Sabrina: The Animated Series, Trollz and Madeline.

In Dance Revolution, ‘tweens’ and teens bring their freshest moves to this sensational new dance competition where teams of dancers display their innovative routines. Hosted by the charismatic Dance Revolution house band, kid-friendly judges determine the winners as the dancers perform their routines to the cool sounds of the band. Dance Revolution will also offer onscreen visuals that constantly encourage viewer participation by demonstrating specific dance moves and steps.

Boyfriend of the year

A "cowardly" Edmonton man who
"scalped" his sleeping girlfriend while using a power drill to style her hair avoided being sent to the slammer yesterday.

Shee Theng, 30, was handed a nine-month conditional sentence to be served in the community and eight months of probation on his assault with a weapon conviction.

"You're like a shadow on the wall," said provincial court Judge Shelagh Creagh, referring to his detailed evasiveness in a pre-sentence report and psychiatric assessment.

How to take care your rivals

There has been a bizarre killing of a young man n the Bronx involved in a love triangle. The victim’s body was spread out over several blocks in the Longwood section.

The body parts, all in garbage bags, were recovered from five locations. Police found a torso in the garbage in the basement of 923 Kelly Street: arms and legs on the sidewalk half a block away on Intervale Avenue and a head in the garbage in an alley on Dawson Street. Angel Romero found one body part. “
He hacked that guy. I found an arm, it was cleanly cut.”

Later the victim’s shoulders and groin area were retrieved from the front of a middle school two blocks away; and three blocks away the victim’s thighs were found among garbage bags at this construction site. When construction worker John Crespo was asked how he knew the body parts were human he motioned to his thigh and said, “You could see. It looked like a thigh cut away and left in a bag with a sheet.

"Be able to kill your students"

The teachings of Grand Master Masaaki Hatsumi echo through my head as he entreats me to attack a blackbelted disciple with a practice sword. "Always be able to kill your students," he says.

Chilling words from a shockingly fit 76-year-old man who bills himself as the world's last ninja and stocks his training chamber with weapons such as throwing stars and nunchucks. Especially to a neophyte whose closest brush with martial arts was watching Bruce Lee matinees as a kid.

As I cautiously raise the sword with a taut two-handed samurai grip, my sparring partner gingerly points to Hatsumi. I avert my eyes for a split second - and WHAM! The next thing I know, I'm staring at the rafters.

This Friday is No Pants Day

If you're the kind of person who is always on the lookout for something to celebrate or commemorate,
this is probably your kind of week, especially if you like to walk around without your pants on.

The week kicked off Monday with observances of May Day, also known as International Workers Day, and in the United States, Loyalty Day.

May 1 also coincided with the Day Without Immigrants demonstrations that drew crowds of hundreds of thousands around the nation in protest against tougher immigration laws. Many of the protesters were Mexican, so, in a way, the day was a good lead-in to Friday's Cinco de Mayo celebration.

Mike = slacker

So I've been pretty much slacking when it comes to making posts. I've been swamped with work and it doesnt help that last week and this week have been midterm weeks. I wouldn't expect too many posts in the next few days, since I majority of my time goes to studying. But I'll try to do some when I get a chance. Hooray for Drexel.
